Government Notices to Sellers of Weighing Instruments

The Government has issued notices to as many as 63 sellers of weighing equipment on e-commerce platforms, seeking details of their compliance to the relevant legal provisions. Each such instrument sold has to be of an approved model and the seller needs to be a registered importer or a licensed manufacturer. The packaging label or declaration on the e-commerce site also has to be as per the rules governing packaged commodities. Moreover, the manufacturer or seller has to keep records of the quantity of equipment manufactured or imported and also of sales and distribution. In addition, they have to maintain details of the fees paid to the Government for verification or stamping of the equipment.
