The European Partnership on Metrology officially launched in March 2022 – EURAMET

On March 31, 2022, the European Union (EU) and EURAMET signed an agreement on the implementation of the European Partnership on Metrology, which was represented by the European Commission (EC).

The ‘Financial Framework Partnership Agreement’ outlines the Partnership’s execution as well as the tasks entrusted by the EC to EURAMET for its administration.

Representatives from both organisations, including the signatories Peter Dröll, Director for Prosperity at DG Research, EURAMET Chairperson Jörn Stenger, and Vice-Chairperson (EMPIR) Maguelonne Chambon, were present at the online signing ceremony.

Metrology Partnership

Horizon Europe, the European Commission’s ambitious research and innovation programme that runs from 2021 to 2027, uses European Partnerships as a crucial implementation instrument.

The Metrology Partnership’s main goals are to promote the transition to a green, climate-neutral, and digital Europe, as well as to boost the European industry’s resilience, competitiveness, and economic growth. Metrology for health, standardisation, fundamental metrology, knowledge transfer, and capacity building measures will also be discussed.

With a budget of approximately 650 million euros, the Metrology Partnership is co-funded by the Member States and the European Union. It is projected to have a wide range of effects, since it will assist a variety of policies, trade, and the advancement of critical European challenges.

The Metrology Partnership builds on past European Metrology Research Programmes’ achievements and aspires to break new ground by contributing to the establishment of self-sustaining, coordinated metrology infrastructures capable of continuing cooperative research and innovation after 2030.
