212 defective weighing scales seized in Manila markets

The Manila city government has confiscated 212 defective weighing scales as part of its ongoing inspections of establishments to ensure consumers receive accurate weights and pay the proper amounts for goods and services.

The Market Administration Office (MAO) said its Weights and Measures Team has been conducting inspections of establishments that use weighing scales, including pawnshops, junk shops, grocery stores, laundromats, and other businesses.

The inspections are being led by MAO Director Joey “TJ” Hizon III.

The city government stressed that business scales must provide accurate measurements to prevent customers from receiving less than they paid for or being charged for an incorrect weight.

The continuing inspections are part of the city's efforts to protect consumers and ensure that establishments comply with regulations on weights and measures.

The MAO reminded businesses to use properly calibrated, accurate weighing scales and urged consumers to be vigilant when purchasing weight-based goods.
