To discuss and submit their suggestions concerning the upcoming Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules 2025 , a deputation of the Chamber of Traders Federation (CTF), led by its president, Neeraj Anand, called on Anuradha Gupta, Controller, Legal Metrology, here today.

The CTF is a registered platform constituted for the welfare and to watch the interest of all the traders under its umbrella.
The organization is continually working on the positive note for the progress and upliftment of business community who are backbone of our state and guiding them from time to time to implement the policies of the State Government departments in order to streamline their business and avoid un necessary penalties due to ignorance.
The members of federation also offered some suggestions to controller, for the kind consideration while finalizing the draft rules.
They strongly opposed the increase in proposed Government fee for verification of weighing and measuring and suggested that any such move will affect consumers only and will put the trader to extra financial hardships.
The members demanded specification of limit for maximum late fee, they said there must be sealing of late fee to an extent, as sometimes the late fee is more than the actual cost of instrument and trader discard it resulting loss to state revenue.
The CTF raised the objections over the procedure for carrying inspections as elaborated for verification, and recommends the insertion of inspection procedure from entry of inspection at the trading premises, to avoid the harassment to our traders and to bring transparency.
“There must be mention in the rules the sharing of report of each inspection to the head of association of that area so as to improve the business ethics of the offender if any,” they suggested.
They said, “There must be mention of minor offences and major offences as done by FSSAI. Rules must illustrate warning only for minor offences as a deterrent and urged the department to issue guidelines for ignoring minor offences for traders, which do not affect consumers.”
CTF further emphasized for increasing the frequency of interaction and awareness programmes for traders.
They recommended that such inclusion in rules will bind the department legally to conduct regular update programme of new amendments in law.
