DOST Camiguin conducts weighing scale calibration training

CAMIGUIN (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Camiguin Provincial Office conducted a two-day calibration training on weighing scales and test weights earlier in December to provide accurate and standards-compliant services in the province.

Ronald Pangan and Nazrodin Saripada from the DOST Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories–Northern Mindanao led the December 10–11, 2025 training. They conducted hands-on demonstrations and technical discussions on proper weighing scale calibration procedures, giving DOST Camiguin personnel the skills to provide reliable calibration services locally.

“A total of 22 weighing scales from micro, small and medium enterprises, as well as the Rural Health Unit of Mambajao, were used during the practical sessions. All instruments were successfully calibrated and issued official calibration stickers—free of charge—ensuring accuracy, reliability and compliance with standards,” said DOST Camiguin Provincial Director Joanne Katherine Banaag.

She added that the capacity-building initiative supports the directive to allow DOST Camiguin to provide calibration services for weighing scales within the province, reducing the need to seek such services outside Camiguin.

The enhanced capability is expected to improve accessibility, efficiency, and service delivery, benefiting consumers, MSMEs, and RHUs across the province.

“By strengthening local technical competence, this activity reinforces DOST’s commitment to quality assurance, improved service delivery, and science-driven support at the grassroots level—where accuracy truly makes a difference,” Banaag said. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
