How NWI’s Weighbridges and WinWeigh Weighbridge Automation Software is Revolutionising Mining in Senegal

BIG NWI news today – and it’s all about our biggest weighbridges yet.

Our Queensland Service Technician Mathew Holmes recently returned from an incredible journey to Senegal, West Africa, where he led the installation of one of the most ambitious weighbridge projects NWI has ever undertaken. This wasn’t just another job—it was a record-breaking moment for our team and a shining example of how Australian technology is supporting industries across the globe.

The project was for the BOTO Gold Mine, and involved installing two 15-metre long by 8-metre wide weighbridges—the widest weighbridges we’ve ever delivered.

Each weighbridge is equipped with 12 x 50-tonne loadcells, totalling 600 tonnes of load cell capacity. That makes these weighbridges capable of handling up to 300 tonnes each, making it the highest-capacity weighbridges we’ve ever supplied and absolutely ideal for heavy-duty mining vehicles.

These weighbridges will primarily help BOTO Gold Mine track the movement and volume of iron ore, improving accuracy, efficiency, and site productivity.

Powering Global Operations: WinWeigh Weighbridge Software Goes International

One of the most significant milestones of this project was the full-scale deployment of our Australian-designed WinWeigh Automation Software – the first international deployment outside of the Oceania region.

Developed in Australia, WinWeigh is now delivering real-time operational control over 7,000 kilometres away from where it was built. Through IP camera integration and advanced number plate recognition, the system enables vehicle identification and precise weight tracking in real time. But what truly sets this installation apart is its connectivity: BOTO Gold Mine’s head office in Morocco now has live, secure access to weighbridge data from deep within Senegal.

This project is more than just another successful software install—it’s a major example of how NWI is allowing businesses across the world to digitise, automate, and scale operations with confidence. By bridging continents and connecting remote mine sites to centralised operations, our very own WinWeigh is transforming how industries approach weighing, logistics, and data visibility.

For us at NWI, this project confirms what we’ve always known: Australian innovation belongs on the world stage. From the outback to Africa, WinWeigh is helping industries weigh smarter, faster, and more globally than ever before.

Life in Senegal: Beyond the Project

Our technician Mathew’s adventure didn’t stop at the mine.

“They told me not to leave the hotel because it’s dangerous—but I left anyway and went on a safari,” he admitted.

A Milestone Project For All at NWI Group to Remember

The BOTO Mine project was a proud moment for our entire team—not just because of the scale and complexity, working between time-zones and coordinating with global companies, but because we’re proving that Australian engineering and software can meet the needs of the world’s most demanding industries – from Australia, all the way to Africa.
