Ingress Protection Ratings

Ingress Protection usually known as IP ratings is often found in the form of a table. An IP rating is a measure of an enclosure or cases ability to resist items entering it.

Ingress Protection Rating comprises of a two-digit code, where the first digit informs about the protection against the intrusion of foreign bodies and the second informs about the resistance against moisture intrusion. The products are given IP ratings after they withstand the necessary tests that determine the efficiency in a range of circumstances. As a result, IP rating helps the customer make informed and educated choices taking into consideration the suitability for a specific application.

The chart below explains the digits

Hence if a Product has an IP rating of IP57, it establishes that the product is protected from the amount of dust that would interfere with the operation of the equipment and is also protected against short periods of immersion in water between 15cm – 1m
