Kreon Unveils High-Precision ANEMO 3D Scanner

Kreon Technologies has introduced ANEMO, a new 3D laser scanner designed for its Onyx portable measuring arm. The scanner combines high-speed data acquisition with fine resolution and a stated accuracy of 12 µm, targeting the inspection of complex components with tight tolerances.

ANEMO captures up to 1.2 million points per second across a laser line up to 200 mm wide, enabling dense point clouds to be acquired with fewer scanning passes. Its 4,000 points per laser line provide a resolution of 25 µm, supporting the measurement of detailed geometries and features.
The scanner uses a fine blue laser to support accurate measurements, including on shiny surfaces. Its wide laser line is designed to increase scanning productivity by reducing the number of passes required to capture a component’s geometry.
According to Kreon, the scanner achieves 12 µm accuracy when considered independently of the measuring arm. LED indicators positioned on the top of the scanner provide real-time guidance, helping operators maintain the correct distance from the surface during scanning. This assists users in keeping the scanner neither too close nor too far from the component, supporting consistent data acquisition.
Combining Scanning and Tactile Measurement
A key feature of ANEMO is its integration with the Onyx measuring arm, allowing users to combine optical scanning and tactile probing within a single measurement system. This provides flexibility for inspecting components that include both complex surface geometries and features requiring contact measurement.
The scanner can be mounted and removed without tools using a simple quarter-turn mechanism. This enables operators to switch quickly between scanning and probing configurations according to the inspection requirements.

ANEMO also incorporates a standard Renishaw mounting interface in place of the dedicated M8 thread used on previous configurations. This enables probes fitted with a PAA1 adapter to be mounted beneath the scanner. Once calibrated, the probe can be removed and refitted with repeatability without requiring recalibration, according to Kreon.
The arrangement is intended to simplify the transition between scanning and probing, supporting different measurement requirements within the same inspection workflow.
Applications in Manufacturing Quality Control
Kreon identifies castings, moulds and dies, tooling, sheet metal, injection-moulded plastic parts and foundry components among the applications suited to the Onyx ANEMO system. The combination of portable measurement, high-speed scanning and tactile probing is also intended to support quality control, first article inspection (FAI) and reverse engineering in automotive and aerospace manufacturing.
The system can be used on the shop floor or in a metrology laboratory, providing an alternative to moving components to a fixed coordinate measuring machine for certain inspection tasks.
Kreon Technologies designs and manufactures portable measuring arms, 3D scanners and metrology software. Its measuring arms are certified to ISO 10360-12, while its scanners are validated to ISO 10360-8.
