In a decisive move to protect consumers from unfair trade practices, the Legal Metrology Wing of the Department of Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs conducted a special enforcement drive in various fish markets across the municipal region of Sri Vijaya Puram in the early hours of 28th June 2025.

The enforcement team inspected markets at Junglighat, Mohanpura, Dignabad, and other prominent areas, targeting vendors suspected of using tampered or unverified weights to cheat customers. During the drive, several instances of malpractice were uncovered.
Officials found that certain fish vendors were using iron weights that were either unverified or deliberately underweight. As a result, 15 cases were registered against the violators under the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The authorities also seized the faulty weights and weighing equipment on the spot.
The Department has issued a stern warning to all traders, particularly fish vendors, urging them to use only legally verified and stamped weights. Any deviation from these norms, officials said, would invite strict legal action in accordance with the law.
Consumers have been encouraged to report any instances of malpractice or unfair trade practices.
