Voith launches PowerDrive Mining electrified conveyor drive system

Voith is launching PowerDrive Mining, its new electric drive system for belt conveyors, at Electra Mining Africa 2026 in Johannesburg. The company is presenting the solution at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, from September 7 to 11, 2026.

With PowerDrive Mining, Voith says it offers a cost‑attractive, fully coordinated conveyor drive and control solution that can be installed fast and operates reliably, efficiently and sustainably while reducing interface risk. Voith ships the package pre-assembled and pre-programmed, pairing compact high-power hardware with coordinated multi-drive control to support faster commissioning, smoother starts and confident daily operation.
PowerDrive Mining is designed as a compact, electrified drive package for belt conveyor applications. It combines key drivetrain elements and safety-relevant components into one coordinated system and supports customers with engineering and services from a single source. This approach Voith says reduces coordination effort and lowers integration risk in conveyor projects that typically involve several suppliers and interfaces.
A core element of the solution is BeltControl – a controller specifically designed for the requirements of belt conveyor systems. Its integrated control logic supports smooth start-ups, precise acceleration and braking, synchronised multi-drive operation, and reduced mechanical stress on belts and steel structures. This helps operators maintain stable operation of the belt conveyor application and reduce wear in demanding mining environments.
Voith: “Mining conveyor projects often face tight schedules and limited shutdown windows. PowerDrive Mining addresses this by reducing work on site. Voith delivers preassembled and factory-tested hardware and provides a pre-parameterised controller concept. Teams do not need to implement project-specific programming; they can work with parameterisation instead.”
This reduces engineering effort, lowers error potential, and shortens quotation, engineering and commissioning time. Its compact form factor improves feasibility for retrofits and replacements in tight conveyor galleries and constrained layouts.
