A memorandum was received by Union Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman in Raipur on Tuesday, demanding to reduce Goods and Services Tax (GST) on weighing and measuring instruments which was sent by an entrustment of Chhattisgarh Maap Taul Nirmata evam Vikreta Sangh (CGMTVNS) led by its State President Kamal Kumar.
It has been mentioned in the letter that at present, 18% GST is being charged on weighing and measuring instruments in the country. So, therefore the CGMTVNS has requested the Union Finance Minister to reduce the GST on weighing and measuring instruments from 18% to 5%.
Kamal Kumar says that since all types of weighing and measuring instruments are not a commodity and they are instruments and these come under the essential item and so the GST should be reduced on weighing and measuring instruments that would be helpful for the beneficial of weighing and measuring manufacturers, traders and consumers.
On November 12, 2020 the Central Government sent instructions to all State Government and departments to reduce performance security on all items from 10% to 3% i.e during the Covid 19 pandemic period but the departments of Chhattisgarh Government and Coal India Limited didn’t followed the instructions.
CGMTNVS President says that according to the order the performance security should be 3% but the traders are still suffering loss as presently there is a rule to deposit performance security from 5% to 10% in the state.
