Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Bhopal Organizes Two-Day Residential Training

The Bhopal Branch Office of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, successfully organized a special two-day residential Training of Trainers (ToT) programme from July 10–11, 2026. This training was conducted for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under BIS's new initiative, ‘SHINE – (Standards Help Inform Nurture Empower Women) for Empowering Women through Standards Campaign’. The primary objective of the campaign is to increase awareness about Indian standards and the use of products bearing the standard mark.


The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the National Standards Body of India. To strengthen the quality ecosystem in the country, BIS continuously works toward promoting Indian standards and spreading awareness among various stakeholders, including industries, government departments, academic institutions, consumers, and community-based organizations.

During the inaugural session, Mr. Mohammad Rizwan, Director and Head of the Bhopal Branch Office, provided detailed insights into the visionary objectives of the 'SHINE' initiative. He highlighted how this campaign will prove to be a milestone in empowering women. During the programme, Mr. Ashutosh Rai briefly shed light on BIS and its various activities.


The two-day training specifically focused on critical standards related to women and children, including Infant care and toy safety, Hygiene products and kitchen safety, Medical textiles, health products, and sanitary Napkin etc.


Dr. A.K. Biswas, Mr. Deepak Joshi, and Mr. Shridhar Pandey participated as the core faculty members for this training programme, providing both technical and practical training to the participants.

SHG Members

Equipped with this training, these trainers will now go on to train various Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in both rural and urban areas. They will provide these groups with technical knowledge regarding product quality, enabling them to manufacture high and standardized quality products. Selling quality-certified products will not only help SHG members gain better recognition in the market but will also enable them to earn a sustainable income and become financially self-reliant.
