Mahr Inc.’s automated inspection, measurement solutions

Mahr Inc., a provider of dimensional metrology solutions, will highlight its latest automated inspection and shop-floor measurement technologies at IMTS 2026, taking place from September 14 to 19, 2026, in Chicago. Featuring advanced solutions ranging from cobot-integrated shaft measurement to inline CNC surface roughness systems and sub-nanometer 3D non-contact optical surface metrology platforms, Mahr provides a comprehensive metrology portfolio engineered to meet the increasingly stringent quality demands of modern precision manufacturing.
Products to be demonstrated at the Mahr booth, 134255, will include:
Mar4D PLQ with Cobot: The Mar4D PLQ line of cylinder coordinate measuring machines offers workpiece flexibility and multisensor technology for high-speed, precise 3D measurements of complex rotationally symmetrical workpieces directly in production environments. The Mar4D PLQ offers an available CNC-controlled centering and tilting table for fully automated alignment (achieving accuracy down to 1µ/0.000040" of residual eccentricity). The live IMTS demonstration will feature automated operation alongside a collaborative robot (cobot) from The HEH Group.
MarSurf3D MS Non-contact surface metrology with Multisensor Measuring Head: This modular 3D optical non-contact platform enables manufacturers to configure a single measurement system for specific surface and micro-contour applications. Featuring a flexible multisensor measuring head that combines LED confocal, white light interferometry, and focus variation with active lighting, the MarSurf3D MS delivers real-time measurements down to the sub-nanometer range. On display is the benchtop MarSurf3D MS SX3200 (200mm x 200mm x 75mm XYZ axes), built for versatile deployment in tribology labs, R&D, measuring room environments, or directly on the shop floor. Freestanding and custom-configured systems are also offered.

MarSurf SD 140: A tactile, skidless, single-sensor system capable of evaluating both roughness and contour features in a single measurement run. Smart tracing arms feature integrated memory chips to prevent calibration and measuring program mismatches. It is configured with a CNC Z-axis, with the choice of a CNC or manual Y-axis.
MarSurf MC 510 E: A tactile, skidless device that enables surface roughness measurement directly inside CNC vertical or hybrid machining centers. By loading automatically from the tool magazine into the spindle, it measures surface roughness down to Rz 1µm without requiring workpiece re-clamping. Its vibration-resistant tactile system features OPC UA communications for seamless interfacing with Siemens, Fanuc, and Heidenhain controls.
MarSurf VD 280: A combination system featuring hot-swappable tactile sensors for surface roughness and contour measurements. Contour arms incorporate smart chips to eliminate measuring program and calibration mismatches, supported by CNC or manual Y-axis adjustment and a CNC Z-axis column.
MarSurf Mobile: Live demonstrations of Mahr’s tactile portable surface metrology tools, showcasing both skidded and skidless systems including the MarSurf PS 10, M 310, and M 410 models.
OptoShaft TT/OptoSurf: Non-contact scattered light metrology demonstrations for assessing surface quality, Aq, and roundness. For example, this system measures roundness non-contact at 100RPM while maintaining strong correlation to slower traditional tactile methods. The OptoSurf sensor can be line-integrated, and the scattered-light method instantly identifies variations in surface quality at production. Variations that cannot be detected by tactile surface metrology are made visible.
Millimar Air Gage and Millimar Cockpit: Precision air gage rings and plugs for dual-master or single-master systems, paired with Millimar Cockpit software for PC-based data collection, analysis, and interface control.
Digimar 817 CLT Height Gage: Offers an intuitive touch screen, ergonomic handling, and a wide range of evaluation options. The height gage is available in three measuring ranges: 350mm, 600mm, and 1,000mm, with multiple logging and data transfer options for easy measurement data processing.
