During the inspection, officials found that three weighing machines used for selling gold, silver, and other ornaments had expired validity for more than a year. The machines, which should have been verified and documented, were immediately taken into custody by the Legal Metrology Department. Speaking to reporters, one of the officials stated, "The raid was based on formal complaints from consumers. A team from the State Weights and Measures Department visited the shop all of a sudden after receiving reports."

Authorities have directed the jewellery shop's management to get the machines verified by the end of the day. Officials warned that legal action would follow if compliance is not ensured.

The raid comes at a time when jewellery shops across the city are witnessing large gatherings of customers due to Akshay Tritiya celebrations and festive discounts, making the incident particularly significant for consumer trust and transparency in the trade. News & Image Source
