This follows after Minister for Works, Mr Abdallah Ulega, uncovered serious negligence that caused heavy traffic along the Dar es Salaam–Morogoro highway.

A statement issued on Wednesday (November 26, 2025) by the Ministry of Works said the dispatched team began repairs on Tuesday, (November 25, 2025), with the goal of restoring full accuracy and ensuring the weighbridge meets national and international standards.

According to the statement, Minister Ulega’s directive follows his surprise inspection on November 22, 2025, where he found that officials had failed to address faults in the automated WIM system, resulting in long queues of cargo trucks and passenger vehicles.

“Following the Minister’s directive, a dedicated team of engineers and weighbridge specialists has commenced comprehensive repairs at Mikese to bring the system back to full functionality,” the Ministry noted.

In a decisive move, the Ministry has suspended three supervisors linked to the negligence to pave the way for investigations.

Those suspended include TANROADS Headquarters Weighbridge Manager Eng Leonard Mombia, TANROADS Morogoro Regional Manager Eng John Mkumbo, and Morogoro Weighbridge Supervisor Eng British Mpeli.

The Ministry assured motorists that despite the ongoing repairs, a special operational arrangement has been put in place to ensure vehicles continue to be processed without disruption and in line with transport regulations.

During his tour of emergency projects under the Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC), Minister Ulega made the unscheduled stop at Mikese, where he ordered TANROADS to fix the faults “with immediate effect” and insisted that negligent staff step aside for disciplinary procedures.
